Jerry tugged at his collar again as we reached his SUV. That was it, I couldn’t take it anymore. I mean, it was really nice that he wanted to dress up for me, but I didn’t want him suffering needlessly.
“Here, let me do that,” I said, positioning myself in front of him. I loosened his tie, and undid the top button of his shirt. His sigh of relief brought a smile to my lips.
We stood there for what seemed like forever, just staring into each other’s eyes. This felt so natural to me; so right on so many levels. It was as if the universe was letting me know I had found the one…I had found my soul mate. But in the midst of all this good feeling, the nagging fact of Archie was still present.
“Can….” Jerry started, and then stopped abruptly, as if he wasn’t sure what to say. “Can I kiss you? I mean, a real kiss?”
As much as I wanted him to, a small part of me was raising the red flag of warning. “I’m not sure if that’s a good idea,” I said, giving in to the warning. “We could be getting ourselves into a whole mess of trouble.”
Jerry moved closer, pinning me against the SUV. “I’m willing to take that chance.” He pressed his lips to mine, and the world stopped spinning, and time stood still.
It was just as I had imagined it would be. This kiss was passionate, and deep, as we explored each other’s mouths with our tongues. He wrapped his arms around me, holding my body tightly against his, as if he were afraid to let go. I ran my fingers over the coarseness of his beard, and finally through the softness of his hair. I was aware of everything all at once, as if my sense were exploding all about me…the smell of his cologne, the taste of his breath, the pounding of his heart, the bulge in his pants. God, I wanted this man to take me right then and there! Forget the three dates! Forget Archie Franklin! This man was mine, and I wanted him forever!
Our lips parted, and the world started spinning again.
“I think you were right,” Jerry whispered, pressing his forehead to mine.
“About what?” I whispered back, feeling the warmth of his breath against my face. He paused. “We are in a whole mess of trouble….” |
